This is one of my favorite meals to make for my family. If you don’t already know, I am a BURGER LOVER. Nine times out of ten, I order the burger at the restaurant. I can’t help it. This delicious burger bowls recipe is so easy to throw together quickly; they are great for meal prep, and the kids love them.

These are versatile. You can switch them up based on the toppings you add and the sauces you use. This is why I love bowls so much. You can make it your own, and each person in the family can have the dinner they love.

One example you could try is a Western bacon burger bowl. Add in some bacon, dried onions, and BBQ sauce, and you’ve just transformed the burger’s entire vibe. Or you could have your classic burger toppings but add a fried egg on top, extra protein and flavor.

Ground beef is such an excellent protein source, and it is so easy to cook with. These are easy to use for meal prep and reheat well. So, whether you are throwing together a delicious family meal, or prepping meals for yourself, OR BOTH – my favorite, this is an excellent option for you!

Burger Bowls Step 1: Ground Beef

Step 1: Brown your ground beef. I sometimes throw some minced garlic in there while I am browning it and sprinkle some salt and pepper.

Cook until browned.

Drain the excess fat, and then add in all of the seasonings you like or that I have listed until it tastes good. 🙂

Then set aside and make your other parts of this meal.

Burger Bowls Step 2: Cook Hash Browns & Grilled Onions

Follow the directions on the hashbrowns. You can use frozen or my new favorite are these dehydrated kind.

Cook in butter until they are nice and crunchy. This will be the base of your bowl and act like some “french fries”

Fry the onions in some butter.

Cook until golden brown and smelling delicious. Set aside for one of your toppings.

Burger Bowls: Step 3 “Big Mac” Sauce

Gather your ingredients. You need mayo, mustard, ketchup and pickles.

You are going to do a mixture of mayo, ketchup, mustard, and pickles. I don’t measure this. I just scoop it out with mostly mayo, then a little less ketchup, tiny bit of mustard, and then lots of pickles.

Stir everything together and then get yourself a little taste. Add whatever condiment you need more of.

Equipment

  • 1 pan
  • 1 meat smasher
  • 1 knife
  • 1 cutting board
  • 1 Measuring Spoons
  • 1 Measuring Cups

Ingredients

  • 2 lb ground beef
  • 1 bag Monterey jack shredded cheese or whatever cheese you like
  • 1 onion
  • hash browns (frozen or box)

"Big Mac Sauce"

  • ketchup
  • mayo
  • mustard
  • pickles

Seasonings

  • Kinders Butchers Burger Blend
  • Kinders The Blend
  • McCormick Sweet Onion Bacon

Instructions

  • Brown the ground beef in a pan and season it with your preferred seasonings. I have experimented with different seasonings, and the ones I like best for this are Kinder's Butcher's Burger Blend, The Blend, & McCormick Sweet Onion Bacon. There are no measurements here because I just sprinkle it on quite generously. (except for the blend (salt, pepper, and garlic). I add that one a little at a time to taste. I keep adding seasonings and stirring until the dish tastes seasoned enough for me. 🙂
  • In a separate pan, grill your onions in a bit of butter or olive oil or spray avo oil. Set aside. (If you don't like grilled onions, you can do raw or not include them in your bowl.
  • Prepare your hashbrowns per directions. Frozen or box. These will be your base. Think "french fries"

Sauce

  • Chop up the pickles very tiny. (or use relish)
  • Could you make sure to stir your ketchup, mayo, mustard, and pickles in a bowl and set aside.

Build Your Bowl

  • Layer your bowls in this order: hash browns, ground beef, cheese, grilled onions, sauce.
  • You can add whatever else you like to your bowl. Some crumbled bacon, more pickles, a fried egg – the possibilities are really endless with this.

Notes

Think of this as a recipe formula.  You start with your base (hash browns & ground beef), and you add in all of your favorite toppings.  Cheese, bacon, onion, sauce, pickles, fried egg, onion ring —whatever you want on your burger —can be placed in this bowl.  Get creative and make it yours.  Its an easy weeknight dinner and this is a great meal prep meal as well.

I would love to hear how you cooked this dinner and what other toppings you’ve come up with for your burger bowls. I am always looking for ways to improve my meals.

Another great way to use ground beef is in my taco bowls. Once you’ve made the ground beef mixture, you can use it to make tacos, burritos, nachos, a salad, or a bowl. The options are endless – another great way to use your ground beef. Check out the post here.
